Three questions we answer on every hat before you buy it. A hat that cannot answer all three is not listed at all.
Wool felt takes on water and goes limp. Shake off what you can, stand the hat upside down on its crown away from any heat source, loosely fill the crown with paper and let it dry in shade for 12 to 24 hours. Heat from a radiator or a dryer sets the distortion permanently. We apply no water-repellent finish to this felt.
Light pressure is fine, folding is not. The half-stiffened crown recovers from a squeeze but keeps a mark from a hard fold.
New wool felt releases loose surface fibre for the first two to three weeks. Brush the crown and brim in one direction with a soft brush after each wear until it settles. On dark clothing you will see the fibre before it stops.
A 6 cm brim reads close to the head, which is why this is the fedora that works under a coat collar and in a car. The crown is blocked with a centre dent and two side pinches and will hold that crease as long as you keep it dry.
Wool felt at 320 g/m² is the least dense felt we sell. It is matte, it is warm to the touch, and it shows a brush mark more readily than the rabbit felts further up the line.
