Three questions we answer on every hat before you buy it. A hat that cannot answer all three is not listed at all.
Rabbit felt sheds a light shower longer than wool because the fibres pack denser, but in sustained rain it still absorbs and the brim drops. Dry it upside down in shade over 12 to 24 hours, never with heat. No water-repellent finish is applied.
Light pressure is fine, folding is not. The half-stiffened crown recovers from a squeeze but keeps a mark from a hard fold.
Fine rabbit felt sheds less than wool but still gives off a light surface fibre for about two weeks. One pass of a soft brush in the nap direction clears it.
The jump from wool to rabbit fur felt is one you can feel before you can see it. The fibres are shorter and pack tighter, so the surface is smoother, the body is thinner for the same rigidity, and the hat weighs less on the head.
Blocked with a centre crease and a 7 cm brim, finished with a wine grosgrain band and a wine leather sweatband.
