Three questions we answer on every hat before you buy it. A hat that cannot answer all three is not listed at all.
Rabbit felt sheds a light shower longer than wool because the fibres pack denser, but in sustained rain it still absorbs and the brim drops. Dry it upside down in shade over 12 to 24 hours, never with heat. No water-repellent finish is applied.
Light pressure is fine, folding is not. The half-stiffened crown recovers from a squeeze but keeps a mark from a hard fold.
Fine rabbit felt sheds less than wool but still gives off a light surface fibre for about two weeks. One pass of a soft brush in the nap direction clears it.
At 440 g/m² the felt is compressed hard enough that the surface reads almost like a fine suede and the edge of the brim can be cut clean without binding. Held up to a lamp, no light passes through it.
This is the hat in the line that holds a crease longest, because the density is doing the work the stiffener does elsewhere.
