actually does

Three questions we answer on every hat before you buy it. A hat that cannot answer all three is not listed at all.

Rain

The stiffener softens when this hat is soaked and the blocked shape can settle out of true as it dries. Dry it upside down in shade for a full 24 hours and press the crown and brim back by hand while the felt is still slightly damp.

Crushing

Do not fold or compress this hat. Stiffened felt does not return — once it is creased out of shape, it stays creased. Carry it in a box.

Shedding

New wool felt releases loose surface fibre for the first two to three weeks. Brush the crown and brim in one direction with a soft brush after each wear until it settles. On dark clothing you will see the fibre before it stops.

About this hat

One crease down the length of the crown and no side dents, with the brim curled evenly upward all the way round and bound in grosgrain. More formal than a fedora, less severe than a top hat.

The wide band carries a flat bow at the side.

Care

Drying: Air dry upside down in shade over 24 hours and reshape by hand while slightly damp.
Brushing: Brush in one direction with a soft brush; work the rolled brim edge separately.
Storage: Store in a rigid box. This shape does not survive being stacked or compressed.
