What this one
actually does

Three questions we answer on every hat before you buy it. A hat that cannot answer all three is not listed at all.

Rain

Unstiffened felt has the least resistance to water of anything we make. Wet through, it will lose the crown shape entirely. Dry it upside down in shade with paper in the crown and reshape it by hand as it dries.

Crushing

Compresses flat under a hand and springs back. Recovery is close to complete but not absolute: after many cycles a faint memory line can remain in the crown.

Shedding

New wool felt releases loose surface fibre for the first two to three weeks. Brush the crown and brim in one direction with a soft brush after each wear until it settles. On dark clothing you will see the fibre before it stops.

About this hat

This one is blocked and felted specifically to be compressed flat and spring back, rather than rolled. Push it flat on a table and let go and the crown comes back up in front of you.

We are not going to tell you it does that forever. After enough cycles a faint line stays in the crown, and that line does not brush out.

Care

Drying: Air dry upside down in shade with paper loosely filling the crown to hold the shape.
Brushing: Brush in one direction with a soft brush once the felt is completely dry.
Storage: Roll brim outward for travel; store opened out flat or upside down on the crown at home.
