What this one
actually does

Three questions we answer on every hat before you buy it. A hat that cannot answer all three is not listed at all.

Rain

Unstiffened felt has the least resistance to water of anything we make. Wet through, it will lose the crown shape entirely. Dry it upside down in shade with paper in the crown and reshape it by hand as it dries.

Crushing

Made to be rolled. Roll it brim outward into a loose coil and it opens back to shape within about an hour. Rolling repeatedly along the same line will eventually mark the crown.

Shedding

Fine rabbit felt sheds less than wool but still gives off a light surface fibre for about two weeks. One pass of a soft brush in the nap direction clears it.

About this hat

Density and packability usually pull against each other. This one is compressed hard and then felted soft, which gets most of the surface quality of the high-density hats while still rolling into a coil.

Recovery after unrolling is the fastest here — about twenty minutes rather than an hour.

Care

Drying: Air dry upside down in shade with paper loosely filling the crown to hold the shape.
Brushing: Brush in one direction with a soft brush once the felt is completely dry.
Storage: Roll brim outward for travel; store opened out flat or upside down on the crown at home.
